Nawiri Agribusiness EPZ Limited
Nawiri is a social enterprise, co-founded by three women, in pursuit of empowering rural smallholder farmers and agents in the macadamia nuts value chains as well as creation of decent jobs. The company sources from thousands of small scale farmers from lower eastern, central and coastal Kenya, then processes and packages macadamia kernels for export into Europe.
The production process that Nawiri uses for macadamia kernels is such that the waste from the shells, which is extracted from the nuts, is recycled to fire the boiler which heat up water producing steam used to dry the nuts. In this way the company reduces its cost of energy as well as reducing on higher carbon emissions and environmental degradations should they have used other fuels such as fossil fuels or wood fuel.
